Jenny’s Story

Ever since I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and high cholesterol at 13 years old, I faced fatigue, concentration issues, mood changes, and weight gain…

I needed to monitor weight, and as you can imagine as a teenage girl, this started a very unhealthy relationship with food.

Growing up in a Caribbean household our family ate delicious, fresh foods. Soon the family starting experiencing similar conditions. Nutrition recommendations were given that were not unique to our interest. But when we all made small diet changes within our familiar meals and saw results, I was hooked.

To better understand my health and the health of my Guyanese family, I pursued a BS in Nutrition and became a Registered Dietitian.

I started to learn about the nutrition and physical health connection and made more positive changes. But there was one thing missing, the connection with mental health.

My professors told me to go take a safer route to pursue nutrition jobs. But I knew I had a bigger mission. One that required me to help people with similar backgrounds, against the status quo.

The psychological effects were the worse part of my conditions: poor body image, comparison, and undefined boundaries. Unfortunately, societal and cultural pressures of “what will people think?” were at an all-time high.

I invited unhealthy relationships and coping behaviors to linger too long. Even though I was feeling lost, my mission kept replaying in my mind.

I knew I needed to connect the dots. In 2017, I began my personal journey to connecting nutrition with mental health and spirituality. I started researching and learning from top mindset experts. I let go of harmful behaviors and people, set boundaries and went to work!

In over 10 years in nutrition of implementing nutrition education and jumping into weight training, I reaped the most benefits when I tapped into my mental health - showing myself kindness and love. I started to effectively decrease body fat, increase muscle mass, feel very strong and confident all while eating my favorite rice and pasta meals like chicken curry and rice and pasta meals! I now teach others how they can also thrive.

The Caribbean cuisine I grew up with has global influences from Africa, Hispanic, Indigenous, India and other parts of Asia. This sparked my interest to learn more about cultural food traditions and encourage people to become an advocate for their own health that is unique to their body. During my career, I noticed the overwhelmingly similar health patterns, I began my career studying the endocrine system and work with those diagnosed with diabetes, prediabetes, insulin resistance, PCOS, hypothyroidism and mental illnesses.

I've helped hundreds of people reverse their prediabetes, achieve healthy A1c levels, optimize body recomposition by burning fat and building muscle, change their mindset while keeping the weight off and decrease anxiety symptoms.

My hope for my clients is to diminish all physiological distress and to ultimately decrease risks or prevent genetic conditions affecting the mind and body for generations. It starts with us.
